Since 2024, the Glanzlichter of Nature Photography have been in new hands.
Since October 2024, the organization of the renowned Glanzlichter of Nature Photography competition has been in the hands of Florian and Lisa Marie Smit. For both of them, this task is not only a great honor but also a responsibility they embrace with enthusiasm and dedication.
Florian is a nature photographer who has received multiple international awards. His work has been recognized in the world’s leading photography competitions, and he has also served as a jury member for many European contests. He brings valuable experience and a refined sense for visual language, composition, and expressive power. His photography is characterized by emotional depth, technical precision, and a deep connection to nature—often captured on long journeys to Northern Europe or remote regions.
Lisa accompanies Florian on many of these trips—with an open mind and a diary instead of a camera. Her passion lies in writing. Her strength is organization. With her professional background in local government administration, she brings a structured approach, clear processes, and a talent for organization that perfectly complements Florian’s artistic spirit.
Together, they aim to shape the competition in a future-oriented way. It is important to them to preserve the original roots of Glanzlichter while also introducing new impulses. The competition is meant to be more than just an award ceremony—it should serve as a vibrant platform where photographers can showcase their work, connect with others, and inspire one another.
With passion, experience, and a shared vision, Florian and Lisa Smit are leading the Glanzlichter of Nature Photography into a new era—open, appreciative, and with a deep love for nature and its photographic expression.
Management & Organization
Lisa Marie Smit
Born in 1993, she has been working in a district administration in Lower Saxony since completing her university degree in 2015. She accompanies Florian on his travels, manages the organization and office work, and has discovered her passion for writing and the wonders of nature. Since 2019, she has joined Florian on stage, sharing stories of their adventures, the hardships, and the patience required when married to a nature photographer.

Florian Smit
Born in 1993, he dropped out of high school in 2011 to fully dedicate himself to photography. After completing a photographer’s apprenticeship, he became a freelance nature photographer in autumn 2015. Today, he is among the most renowned nature photographers, has received multiple international awards, served as a juror in major competitions, and shares his knowledge through workshops. He also writes for magazines and presents gripping live reports about his travels.
